A Stage Set for Success

January 17th, 2024 by George Marshall

After graduating from Prep last year, Silas M. finds himself immersed in a whirlwind of new learning experiences at the Northwest School of the Arts. But he certainly hasn't forgotten his roots, and in December, he visited Prep for both our Science Fair and Winter Fine Arts Showcase. Silas wanted to support his former classmates, and he also misses our little community.

At Northwest, Silas has dived into set-building and stage design. Majoring in Technical Theater, Silas has access to classes and production opportunities not often found in high school, feeding a love for theater that started here. Mrs. Davis recalls his vivid imagination as a drama student. "He even took a story his classmates created and came in the following week with a full script and copies printed out." With his passion for storytelling, it's not surprising that Silas started the Charlotte Prep Dungeons & Dragons Club.

Silas credits Prep for helping him gain admission to his new school, both through honing his resume and application, and the variety of interests he was able to cultivate here with sports, music, theater, chess, and more. He has some advice for our current students:

"Stick with the things you want to do. If there's something you really enjoy, there's probably somewhere you can do it. Also, savor the time you have here. Sometimes I wish I could come back to have one more day with all my friends. And most importantly, work hard. Because at the end of the day, if you keep putting up those good grades, you can pursue what you want to do, and not just what you have to."

Thanks again for coming back to visit, Silas! We're excited to see where you go next.
