OVERVIEW
This is a temporary, full-time position for a skilled and dedicated individual to be a part of an outstanding faculty. A Lower School Assistant Teacher works with the classroom lead teacher to maintain a learning environment that supports the Charlotte Preparatory School mission statement and upholds the four pillars of leadership - Respect, Integrity, Perseverance, and Courage.

Requirements
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
- Work with teachers and staff to promote the healthy intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth of the students.
- Treat students, faculty, staff, and parents with dignity and respect, and maintain a professional attitude and confidentiality as needed.
- Provide instructional and clerical support for the lead classroom teacher(s).
- Support and assist children in learning class material under the lead teacher's direction and guidance.
- Lead class, with the assistance of a substitute, during the absence of the lead teacher.
- Provide students with individualized attention, working with students as a whole group, in small groups, or individually – listening to students read, reviewing or reinforcing class lessons, and assisting children in using classroom equipment and materials; provide extra assistance to a student with special needs as requested by the lead teacher.
- Report any observations or concerns regarding student behavior or progress to the lead teacher, so that the lead teacher, at his/her discretion, may address these issues as needed with the parents.
- Supervise students to promote safety and respect in various locations on and across campus, including but not limited to the dining hall, playground, carpool, and other common areas.
- Prepare materials for instruction, check student work, keep attendance records, duplicate, laminate, and file materials; organize and display student work and other materials on bulletin boards.
- Help keep classroom supplies and equipment maintained, and prepare materials for the teacher and students.
- Take charge of special projects and prepare equipment or exhibits as requested by the lead teacher and administration.
- Attend staff meetings, recommended training, school activities as assigned by the administration, and parent-teacher conferences scheduled by the lead teacher.
- Help to maintain a clean, neat, and organized classroom, and promote healthy personal hygiene habits of students.
- Participate in other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required.
- Experience working with elementary-aged children in a school setting is required.
- Experience working in an independent school environment is preferred.

- Team-oriented with the ability to work effectively with grade-level and divisional faculty and staff, and other members of the school, including the administrative team, other faculty members, parents, and students.
