Our mission

Charlotte Preparatory School fosters lifelong learning and provides an exemplary educational experience founded on academic excellence, positive character, and leadership development in a diverse, inclusive community.

We bring our mission to life each day by providing an exceptional education for our students in a warm, nurturing environment that fosters intellectual, expressive, physical, and ethical growth. We value character and integrity as the essential building blocks of a truly meaningful life, and we recognize the richness of what students can learn within a diverse student body.

Charlotte Preparatory School is committed to building and nourishing a community aligned around our four pillars:

Celebrating 50 years

Founded in 1971 as the Charlotte Montessori School near Uptown Charlotte, Charlotte Prep moved to our current location off Sardis Road in 1992. With the addition of the Middle School in 1998, the name of the school was changed to Charlotte Preparatory School to reflect our overall philosophy of preparing our students for future success, leadership, and lifelong learning.

Looking forward

We are happy to share our new strategic plan, Writing Our Next Chapter. This plan is the result of a community-wide effort to dream about and plan for the future of our school. Writing Our Next Chapter details the goals, strategies, and initiatives we will achieve over the next five years to realize our vision.

To ensure that Charlotte Preparatory School is at the forefront of PreK-8 education, we initiated a strategic planning process that began in January 2022. By partnering with the Center for Strategic Planning on this initiative and engaging many members of our community—alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff—in the creation of this plan, we have identified the most important goals for our school to pursue over the five years and established the concrete actions needed to reach them.
