OVERVIEW
Charlotte Preparatory School’s Auxiliary Programs include the Extended Day and After School Programs, as well as Studio Enrichment classes, and Summer Camps. Auxiliary Programs Extended Day teachers work with our Early School students to maintain an environment that supports the Charlotte Preparatory School mission statement and upholds the Four Pillars of Leadership: Respect, Integrity, Perseverance, and Courage. The position requires patience and respect for children. This is a full-time, hourly position, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This person will also be required to come in for full-day child care three times a year, when the campus is closed. These currently include parent-teacher conference days and Spring Break. You will have various opportunities throughout the year to work extra hours, and you will also be among the first considered for Summer Camp positions, should you be interested. Position is 30 hours per week, paid holidays, benefits, and 403b retirement.
Requirements
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Be familiar with and sensitive to Montessori principles, and be aware of Day Care Licensing requirements
- Organize the room and materials to respectfully co-exist in a shared space, leaving the space ready for class the next day
- Daily duties will include: planning and prep of group activities, supervision of lunch, nap, recess, and snack, as well as planning and leading group activities, organizing free play materials, and clean-up
- Plan daily activities and submit monthly supply lists to the Auxiliary Programs Coordinator
- Working with the Auxiliary Programs Coordinator and the Second Step Program, design as many opportunities for children to be engaged as possible while providing a wide range of enriching, age-appropriate activities
- Ensure the health and safety of each child through current CPR/First Aid training, and careful supervision both in the classroom and on the playground
- Prepare and employ curricular activities as directed by the Director of Auxiliary Programs and the Auxiliary Programs Coordinator
- Keep student emergency forms with you, at all times, in a place/manner to ensure confidentiality
- Children must be supervised at all times (keeping face-to-name sheet current), and must be signed out by an adult
- Teachers should actively participate with the children
- Follow Auxiliary Programs policy and the policies outlined in the CPS Employee Handbook, as well as the CPS Auxiliary Program Employee Handbook
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Early Childhood Education background; some knowledge of Montessori philosophy is desirable but not required.
- 1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
- Team orientation – able to work effectively with other members of the school administrative team, other faculty members, parents, students, and other school/Montessori community colleagues.
- Sees the school as an entire entity, rather than an isolated Auxiliary Programs or Early School divisions
- Dependable and recognizes the importance of consistency within the classroom
- Strong communication and organizational skills with high levels of attention to detail
- Positive, enthusiastic, and warm personality
- Strong work ethic, proactive, and success-oriented
- Demonstrates patience and respect for small children and their natural development as inherent throughout the teachings and philosophy of Maria Montessori
