Students Gather to Mark a Day for Peace
September 21st, 2022
Established by the United Nations in 1981, the International Day of Peace is observed on September 21 each year as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace.
The entire Charlotte Prep student body gathered in a circle around our flagpole to celebrate this important day. Pre-Primary students came dressed for the occasion with colorful peace hats they made.

The middle school 7/8 choir performed Shalom Chaverim and Give Peace a Chance while student council members displayed the peace quilt students made for a previous Day of Peace.
Eighth-grade student council representatives Claire and Cameron spoke to their peers about the values of our BUDEE program, our cross-divisional mentorship program. BUDEE groups met for the first time this year to craft the flags that adorned our Peace Day stage.
Head of School Chris Marblo emphasized that we all have a responsibility to be peacemakers; “peace is not something that happens naturally in the world, nor easily. In order for there to be peace, we need to make it.” And Director of Community Life Danielle Ferguson sent students off with a simple reminder: “as you go about your day, think about how you can be peacemakers, whether that’s speaking up when something’s wrong or simply being kind to others.”
