OVERVIEW

Charlotte Preparatory School seeks a passionate and creative individual to hold a full-time, 10-month teaching position with instruction of Spanish to 7th and 8th grade students. The 8th grade course is a high school level Spanish 1 class. Middle School teachers at Charlotte Preparatory School maintain a learning environment that supports the Charlotte Preparatory School mission statement and upholds the four pillars of leadership - Respect, Integrity, Perseverance, and Courage.

Requirements

 

 

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Teach four total sections of middle school Spanish to 7th and 8th-grade students
  • Serve as Student Advisor to instruct students in citizenship and character development
  • Lead or help lead one middle school club
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and small-group instruction and to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Maintain unit and lesson plans as part of school’s curriculum mapping process
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, discovery, project-based learning, etc., to facilitate higher-order thinking and communication skills
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional and positive learning atmosphere in the classroom
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports (as needed) and report cards
  • Communicate with parents through conferences, phone calls, and LMS/e-mail to discuss students’ progress and respond to inquiries
  • Identify student needs and coordinate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, behavioral, and learning challenges
  • Maintain professional competence through professional development activities
  • Participate cooperatively with the Head of Middle School and engage in self-reflective endeavors as part of the evaluation process
  • Supervise students outside the classroom during the school day, i.e. during recess, lunch, and breaks
  • Participate in grade team, division, and full faculty meetings, and serve on school committees as required
  • Attend divisional and school-wide required events (e.g. pre-planning, Open Houses, conferences, etc.)
  • Dress and behave professionally as outlined in the faculty handbook
  • Present a positive image of Charlotte Preparatory School to the outside community, including social networking sites
  • Supervise students during Field Trips, dances, and other events
  • Other duties as assigned by Head of Middle School or Head of School                                                   

 

SUPERVISION

  • Reports directly to the Head of Middle School

 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required; Masters or other advanced degree preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a middle school and independent school setting is preferred

  • Strong communication and organizational skills with high levels of attention to detail
