OVERVIEW:

Charlotte Preparatory School, a PreK-8 independent school in Charlotte, NC seeks a visionary and collaborative educational leader to serve as the Head of Strategic Programs. This senior administrative role is responsible for designing, supporting, and overseeing key institutional initiatives that advance the school’s mission and long-term success. The ideal candidate will drive STEM program innovation (including emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence), manage a comprehensive high school placement program that supports students and families throughout the transition process, and co-lead the development and execution of the school’s next strategic plan.

The Head of Strategic Programs reports directly to the Head of School and works closely with faculty, administrators, students, families, and the Board of Trustees.

Requirements

CURRENT STRATEGIC PRIORITIES INCLUDE:

STEM Program Vision, Leadership, and Execution

  • Develop a cohesive STEM vision, program, and scope and sequence from Pre-K through Grade 8.
  • Upon program launch, teach MS STEM classes
  • Work closely with the Technology Integration Specialist to oversee schoolwide AI policy and adoption, including faculty training, student guidance, ethical use, and integration into academic and operational practices.
  • Work with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to collaborate with teachers and divisional leaders to integrate hands-on, inquiry-based learning across the curriculum.
  • Support STEM faculty through coaching, professional development, and resource allocation.
  • Evaluate and evolve STEM initiatives based on emerging best practices, student outcomes, and school priorities.
  • Participate in and help design campus improvement initiatives, and new or upgraded facilities, related to STEM.

High School Placement Management and Coordination

  • In collaboration with the Head of Middle School, advise students and families in all aspects of the high school admissions process, from early preparation to final enrollment.
  • Maintain strong relationships with a wide range of local, regional, and boarding high schools.
  • Communicate proactively and positively with students, parents, and faculty.
  • Prepare transcripts and recommendation materials, guide faculty for effective advocacy, and meet with all schools to present student applicants for high school admissions.
  • Organize high school events, informational programs, and parent education workshops.
  • Analyze placement outcomes and continuously adapt program strategy.

Strategic Planning and Accreditation

  • With the Head of School and Board of Trustees, help lead the design, facilitation, and execution of Charlotte Prep’s next strategic plan and accreditation.
  • Conduct needs assessments, community surveys, and stakeholder engagement sessions.
  • Collaborate with the Head of School and Board of Trustees to track progress toward institutional goals.
  • Monitor trends in independent school education to inform strategic priorities.
  • Ensure transparent communication and alignment across all campus constituencies.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team.
  • Represent Charlotte Prep at advancement, admissions, and board-related meetings as needed.
  • Support community-building initiatives and embody the mission, values, and culture of the school.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree is required; preference will be given to candidates with a STEM degree and/or background.
  • Demonstrated experience in STEM curriculum leadership, strategic planning, or program design.
  • Knowledge of independent school operations and the high school placement landscape.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and counseling skills.
  • Ability to lead complex initiatives from concept through completion.
  • Comfort presenting to diverse audiences, including families, faculty, board members, and external partners.
