POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position will serve as a 5th- and 6th-grade teacher in the Middle School. Beginning in the second year, the role is expected to evolve into a 6th grade core teaching position that includes math and an additional core academic subject, based on school needs and program development. This is a full-time, 10-month faculty position within the Middle School Division.

Requirements

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Develop, plan, and utilize diverse instructional strategies (e.g., inquiry, discussion) to provide differentiated, individualized, and small-group instruction aligned with school goals, promoting higher-level thinking.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and refine curriculum and assessment. 
  • Evaluate and record student academic and social growth; prepare progress reports and report cards.
  • Communicate student progress and school program details to parents via conferences, phone calls, and email.
  • Identify student needs and collaborate with staff to address health, behavioral, and learning challenges.
  • Supervise students during on-campus and off-campus activities (recess, lunch, field trips, dances, overnight trips).
  • Serve as a student advisor and a club sponsor during the school day.
  • Participate in required meetings (grade-level, division, faculty), committees, and school-wide events.
  • Engage in professional development to stay current on educational trends, research, and standards to strengthen curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Middle School and/or Head of School.

 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary/Middle School Education or related core subject required; Master's degree preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in upper elementary or middle school, in an independent school setting, and/or a valid teaching certificate is preferred
