POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Learning Support Specialist position is designed to advance the academic growth and overall development of students at Charlotte Preparatory School by providing responsive, research-informed support for diverse learning needs. This role requires expertise in ADHD, executive functioning challenges, and learning differences in reading and mathematics. The successful candidate demonstrates a deep understanding of child development and approaches each student with sensitivity to their unique learning profile. This is a full-time, 10-month position.

Requirements
GENERAL DUTIES
- Collaborate with lead teachers, division head, and school psychologist/coordinator of Student Support Services to identify students in need of support or enrichment.
- Assess and analyze student learning needs through formative assessments and review of educational testing reports to inform targeted instruction and differentiation.
- Deliver differentiated instruction through small-group push-in and pull-out support models.
- Provide remediation, extension, and enrichment activities utilizing core curriculum materials and supplemental resources as appropriate
- Manage the Student Referral process, which includes identifying targeted areas of need, setting measurable goals, implementing and monitoring interventions, and communicating progress with student support team members.
- Collect and communicate progress data to teachers, the division head, and the psychologist.
- Interpret and synthesize educational testing reports.
- Coordinate and manage testing accommodations for students with documented learning differences.
- Develop specific, goal-oriented, measurable Student Success Plans for students with identified areas of need based on educational testing reports.
- Partner with families by participating in parent-teacher conferences and maintaining ongoing communications regarding student progress, including written comments when appropriate.
- Partner with the Admissions Office as part of the applicant review process and meet with prospective students to conduct grade-appropriate academic screenings.
- Work collaboratively with the PK-4th-grade Learning Support Specialist, counselors, and other team members to ensure consistency and continuity of the program across divisions.
- Supervise students during field trips, dances, overnight trips, and other events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Middle School and/or Head of School.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education required; Master’s degree preferred
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in learning support and/or classroom teaching required
- Experience in an independent school setting strongly preferred
