POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Summer Camp Nurse is responsible for supporting the health, safety, and well-being of campers and staff during Charlotte Preparatory School’s Summer Adventures at Prep program. This role serves as the primary on-campus health professional during camp hours and is responsible for providing first aid, administering medications, maintaining health records, responding to medical needs, and partnering with camp leadership and families to ensure a safe and healthy camp environment.

The Summer Camp Nurse works closely with the Director of Auxiliary Programs and camp staff to review camper health information, manage allergies and medical needs, and respond to any illness or injury that occurs during the camp day.

This is a part-time, seasonal, non-exempt position operating June 4 through July 28, 2026, with camp hours from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Camp will not be in session on June 19 and June 29 through July 3.

Requirements

Qualifications:                                                                                                                                   

Registered Nurse with a current license in the state of North Carolina

  • CPR Certified Health Care Provider
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in school nursing or other acute care settings, such as pediatrics, critical care, emergency room, urgent care, etc.
  • Pediatric and adolescent medical experience preferred
  • Excellent clinical assessment and basic first aid skills
  • Ability to function in a clinical setting, providing first aid and first responder services with limited staff resources
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to utilize a computerized documentation system

 Responsibilities:

  • Maintain health records and a daily log of clinic visits
  • Review camp registrations and work directly with parents and campers regarding special needs, allergies, and dietary restrictions
  • Provide cafeteria staff with a list of all students with life-threatening food allergies
  • Complete an Incident Report for any significant event/injury and follow up, as necessary
  • Carry a radio and be ready to respond to all on-campus emergencies, and to contact 911 and parents as needed
  • Determine students' health needs through nursing assessment and initiate interventions as necessary
  • Provide health education and first aid services to students, faculty, and staff who are ill or injured
  • Administer medication (both routine and as needed) to students, while monitoring for and documenting effectiveness or adverse reactions
  • Notify parents of injuries and significant events
