OVERVIEW
Charlotte Preparatory School, a PK-8 independent school in South Charlotte, seeks a Facilities Manager. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Facilities Manager is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and operational upkeep of school buildings, grounds, and facility systems to ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained campus environment.
This is a full-time, exempt, twelve-month position.

Requirements
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Campus Facilities Operations
- Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, repair, and appearance of all school buildings, grounds, and campus systems, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-functioning campus environment.
- Manage preventative maintenance programs and respond promptly to facility issues, coordinating repairs in a manner that minimizes disruption to school operations.
- Ensure high standards of campus presentation and beautification.
Staff and Vendor Oversight
- Supervise facilities and grounds personnel, including scheduling, training, and performance oversight, to ensure efficient daily operations.
- Manage contracted janitorial services and third-party vendors, maintaining strong relationships to ensure quality, safety, and timely completion of work.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, building codes, and inspection requirements, including coordination of required inspections and maintenance of related documentation.
- Partner with the Director of Safety and Security to ensure facility-related safety systems are properly maintained and operational.
- Provide support for emergency facilities response, including after-hours issues when necessary.
Facilities Administration and Resource Management
- Oversee purchasing, inventory, and proper storage of maintenance supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Maintain accurate records for repairs, warranties, contracts, inspections, and facility systems documentation.
Event and Operational Support
- Be physically present at school events (both during and after school) and campus activities requiring facilities support, serving as the primary on-site facilities point person to address maintenance and operational issues in real time.
- Ensure event spaces are properly prepared, maintained, secured, and staffed as needed before, during, and after events.
- Coordinate all facilities-related event logistics, including setup, breakdown, and cleaning.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or trade school certification preferred.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, custodial, and general building maintenance systems.
- Minimum 5–7 years of facilities or building maintenance experience required; school or nonprofit setting preferred.
- Prior experience supervising maintenance staff and contractors strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable safety codes, building regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with digital work order systems, facility tracking tools, and standard computer applications.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required.
- Ability to lift, climb, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and perform physical aspects of the role.
- Dependable, proactive, and service-oriented with a strong commitment to supporting a school community.
