Liam's Prep Story
November 12th, 2024
My name is Liam, and I am Charlotte Prep’s student council president. I have been a Prep student for a little over two years and I have loved the support and kindness in this community. At Prep, the people here are some of the nicest and most creative that I have ever met.
When I first joined, I was nervous and scared because I didn’t know anyone and had attended my previous school for six years. But the teachers and students here helped me. As the year went on, I met many friendly students. By winter, I tried out for the musical, and that was where I really met my people. I loved doing school musicals at my old school, and the actors, stagehands, and directors here were all super supportive. My favorite part of that school year was probably the end-of-year field trip because I loved the memories I made in West Virginia.
Liam was a major part of Charlotte Prep's efforts to support Hurricane Helene recovery. Read more about those efforts.
In the fall, I ran for student council president. Even though I lost, I was still able to be on the student council and help make important decisions for the school. I also got a large role in the musical that year and I continued to grow a bond with other students like me who love the performing arts.

Now as an eighth grader, I have gained lots of helpful experience, and this year I was elected president after the past two years of learning about leadership from participating in student council.
While my Prep journey is unique to me, it is not uncommon for Prep students to have similar experiences: pursuing their interests, surrounded by other passionate students and supportive faculty and staff. Whether it’s athletics, academics, the arts, or student government, there truly is something for everyone here at prep.
To conclude I have met amazing people in a close community that other public and larger private schools could not have offered. Because of the size and support at Prep, I have had leadership opportunities I would not have had at a larger school. I was comfortable trying things and taking risks that I may not have been able to take had I gone to a larger school. All in all, Prep is a unique and vibrant school community that will have a special place in my heart years after I graduate in May.
