Farm Day for 3rd Grade
October 9th, 2025
In early October, the third grade went on a field trip that has become a beloved yearly tradition. They visited Weddington Farm for a day of team building, service learning, and hands-on fun in the great outdoors.
Their adventure began in the garden, where students learned about composting, harvested fresh kale, and even had the chance to taste it right from the source. From there, they headed to the low ropes course. At this station, students faced team challenges that required them to brainstorm how to work together effectively. They explored important concepts like clear communication, active listening, planning, reflecting, and adapting their approach. Their teamwork paid off as every group succeeded in getting their entire team onto the platform affectionately called “The Whale.”
Next, they made their way to the archery range. Students learned how to nock an arrow, draw the bowstring, take aim, and release toward the target. One student joyfully declared, “This is better than math—this is teaching us how to survive in the forest!” After a shared lunch and some free play, they ended our day visiting the livestock, which included alpacas and goats. Before feeding the animals, they learned that both are herd animals and primarily eat hay, so what they were feeding them was a special treat. Students were thoughtful and gentle as they interacted with the animals, showing care and curiosity.
It was a truly meaningful day filled with learning, laughter, and connection. Spending time in nature while building community made this experience one to remember. We are already looking forward to next year.
