The New Lower School Building Takes Shape

April 9th, 2025 by Chris Marblo

Hard hat tour of new buildingIt has been exciting and interesting to witness the latest phase of the construction of our new lower school. From initially seeing the building in two-dimensional mock-ups and drawings to now seeing it rise before us, we are getting a whole new perspective on what the building will actually look like and how it will function.

Now that the building is enclosed and the walls framed, we can see the actual dimensions of classrooms, hallways, and the cafeteria. These are large spaces that will give students and teachers plenty of room to learn and play while also being of a scale that is just right for children. The size and number of windows are also impressive – this building will be filled with natural light. I’m especially intrigued by the classrooms on the second floor, which will surely feel like they are, as our architects hoped, in the woods.

The cafeteria and adjacent porch look inspiring. It is easy to imagine all the conversations and meetings that will take place in these spaces. And the rooflines of the building are unique and reminiscent of our former lower school. The new building is a result of creative design and planning.

As construction continues and more details emerge, I am sure we will all continue to be entranced and excited by what we see. The building will come fully alive when school opens in August; that will be a very good day and mark the end of the long journey that began in June 2023. We have much to look forward to and soon celebrate.
