A Season for Gratitude
November 11th, 2025
Recently, I had the fortunate opportunity to serve as a mystery reader in Mrs. Guzman’s early school Rose classroom. The book The Gratitude Jar could not have been a more fitting choice for November—a month we dedicate to giving thanks, serving others, and embracing community. After a few opening questions from students about my interest in ice hockey, my son, and my Halloween costume, the class was eager to hear from their surprise guest.
The book’s central message highlights the importance of prioritizing relationships and the “simple things” in life over material goods. In teaching her child this valuable lesson, the mother in the story encourages the child to decorate a gratitude jar. What begins as a fun, creative activity evolves into a meaningful practice as the child learns that embracing gratitude is not only rewarding but can also bring joy.
As we welcome this season of giving thanks and giving back, I couldn’t help but draw parallels between the themes of the book and our mission at Charlotte Prep, which is deeply rooted in character and leadership development. Through community partnerships, our BUDEE program, and children’s literature like The Gratitude Jar, we continue to embed essential values into our curriculum and culture.
In the spirit of gratitude, I would also like to thank everyone who has already committed to supporting our Prep Fund, which directly enriches the lives of our students and educators. We are excited to continue this momentum, increase parent participation, and help guide Prep into its next great phase. Thank you to all who have donated—and helped fill my own gratitude jar.
